As a dedicated ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, we recognized something important: too many members of the LGBTQIA+ community in our area feel isolated and disconnected. This project works by connecting communities across three counties, showing that there are many of us who stand together; intergenerational, spanning different counties, united in support and love.
The project centers around a beautiful heart-shaped structure filled with beaded chicken wire curtain. But here is the magic, the beads are not just decorations. They are assembled by community members at events throughout Doña Ana, Luna, and Sierra counties, with each person adding their own piece to our collective story.
We take this project on the road to reach people where they are, creating connections across three counties before bringing everyone together for the big reveal. It is about building a chosen family, creating visibility, and sharing a piece of community art one bead at a time. Show that love really does grow here is Southern New Mexico
